Asus UL30J

Optimus in Thin Body
Optimus technology it can be implemented anywhere. Included in this notebook is actually included notebook "thin".

Asus arguably one of the main supporters of Optimus Nvidia technology. Currently they have three series of notebooks supporting Optimus, one of which UL30J this. A unique, this notebook category thin-and-light, thin and light notebooks aka suitable for use on the go. This shows Optimus can be applied to all types of notebooks, including a thin notebook that has limited space.

As a thin notebook, Asus UL30J course use the processor power-saving versions. But not any power-efficient processors, but the latest power-efficient processors from Intel, the Core i5 520UM. Note the initials "UM" on the back of the processor serial number, which is different from Core i5 naming standard (which only the initials M such as 540M). Processor has a standard speed of 1.06 GHz, but with facilities Turbo (aka automatic overclock), its speed can reach 1.86 GHz.

Amazingly, the speed of the system can be further enhanced through artificial technology Asus called Turbo33. According to Asus, this technology will improve the system to 33% with a way to overclock the DDR3 memory from 800MHz to 1066MHz frequency standard. When we try, the claim is proved. In the condition without Turbo33, Cinebench R10 only score 4694. While with Turbo33, the score reaches 5657-alias increased 20%. But because it had never tested the notebooks that use the Core i5 520UM, we do not know how many actually benefit Turbo33 of performance standards.

On the graphics card, this notebook using the Nvidia GeForce 310M. This graphics card is considered entry-level, so do not expect the performance. Tests generate graphics using 3DMark Vantage score of 1045, while Stalker (1024x768) recorded 9.5 fps. However, the performance is still about 4X faster than using the Intel IGP HD.

Optimus technology itself operate smoothly on this notebook. Applications that require heavy graphics performance automatically handled directly GeForce 310M. Meanwhile, when playing HD video, HD Intel IGP that works and the notebook can last about 3 hours.
