Sony Forced to Close PlayStation Network

REVIEWeverywhere.blogspot.com
Whether related towith case against Geohotz or not ,Sony is known to have  closed the  PlayStation  Network  . Why? There are external threats.

Through its official blog, Sony announced the PlayStation Network is still closing. Online services for users of the PlayStation 3 is disrupted since 20 April 2011.

As quoted from the official PlayStation blog on Sunday (04/24/2011), the closure was caused by external threats.

"An intrusion from outside of our system has affected the PlayStation Network (PSN) and Qriocity," writes Patrick Siebold, Sr.. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media, Sony Entertainment, United States.

For the sake of doing a thorough investigation, Siebold said, PSN and Qriocity been turned off. He claimed not to know when service will be alive again.

"Our efforts to overcome this problem including rebuild our system to be more powerful. Although it spends a lot of time, we decided that this needs to be done for the sake of security," he wrote.

PSN closure occurred shortly after Sony settle its legal case with Georgo Hotz aka Geohotz. When the case was crowded, the group called Anonymous had launched an offensive to Sony.

NVIDIA Titan Fastest Supercomputer Tesla K20 GPU

  • NVIDIA Powers Titan, Worlds Fastest Supercomputer For Open Scientific Research

Sunday, October 28, 2012
NVIDIA | Titan Fastest Supercomputer | Tesla K20 GPU screenshot
Titan, the worlds fastest open-science supercomputer,(1) was completed this month at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, opening new windows of opportunity into the exploration of some of the worlds toughest scientific challenges.

Titans peak performance is more than 20 petaflops -- or 20 million billion floating-point operations per second -- about 90 percent of which comes from 18,688 NVIDIA® Tesla® K20 GPU accelerators. These are based on the NVIDIA Kepler™ architecture, the fastest, most efficient, highest-performance computing architecture ever built.

Researchers use ever faster supercomputers to accelerate the pace of discovery and innovation across a range of scientific fields of inquiry -- from developing more efficient engines and higher capacity, lighter weight batteries, to studying climate change and finding cures for disease. Titan is a milestone on the path to exascale computing, which targets building a 1,000 petaflops supercomputer.

Titan is operated by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, part of the U.S. Department of Energys network of research labs, as an open-science system. This means it is available to researchers from academia, government laboratories, and a broad range of industries who will use Titan to model physical and biological phenomena and seek breakthroughs faster than possible by experimentation alone.

Supported by the energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the Tesla K20 GPU, Titan is more than 10 times faster and five times more energy efficient than its predecessor, the 2.3-petaflops(2) Jaguar system, while occupying the same floor space. Had Oak Ridge upgraded Jaguar by simply expanding its CPU-based architecture, the system would be more than four times its current size and consume more than 30 megawatts of power.(3)

"Basing Titan on Tesla GPUs allows Oak Ridge to run phenomenally complex applications at scale, and validates the use of accelerated computing to address our most pressing scientific problems," said Steve Scott, chief technology officer of the GPU Accelerated Computing business at NVIDIA. "You simply cant get these levels of performance, power- and cost-efficiency with conventional CPU-based architectures. Accelerated computing is the best and most realistic approach to enable exascale performance levels within the next decade."

Titan development began three years ago with Oak Ridges decision to upgrade Jaguar, the previous open science system leader and a former world No. 1 most powerful supercomputer. The upgrade includes the Tesla K20 GPU accelerators, a replacement of the compute modules to convert the systems 200 cabinets to a Cray XK7 supercomputer, and 710 terabytes of memory.

"Science and technology have always been our primary goal, and Titan is a groundbreaking tool that will allow researchers worldwide to leverage GPU-accelerated computing to make unparalleled breakthroughs," said Jeff Nichols, associate laboratory director for computing and computational sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. "The new Tesla GPU accelerators offer the performance and energy efficiency that enable Titan to scale to unprecedented performance levels without consuming the energy equivalent of a small city."

About NVIDIA Tesla GPUs NVIDIA Tesla GPUs are massively parallel accelerators based on the NVIDIA CUDA® parallel computing platform and programming model. Tesla GPUs are designed from the ground up for power-efficient, high performance computing, computational science and supercomputing, delivering dramatically higher application acceleration for a range of scientific and commercial applications than a CPU-only approach.

Dell Latitude E6420 ATG Review

Dell Latitude E6420 ATG Review

Dell Latitude E6420 ATG seems familiar, it should. Its the semi-rugged version of the business-centric Latitude E6420, which has a stylish, durable design and a great keyboard. Dell has built on those strengths by beefing up the systems durability and ruggedness, and adding a solid state drive for even greater performance. Our configuration even includes a touchscreen, which field workers might appreciate. But do those improvements warrant the $3,012 price tag?
Design

the E6420, the E6420 ATGs MIL-STD810G tested, Tri-Metal chassis is designed to withstand almost anything business users can throw at it, including drops, extreme heat and cold, and dust. Its lid is covered in sharp gray, anodized brushed aluminum that is bordered by a black, textured scratch-resistant hard plastic, which helps make the lid feel exceedingly sturdy. The lid also has two conveniently placed status lights in the upper right-hand corner that turn on when the system is in use and running low on battery power. The underside of the unit is protected by the same black, powder-coated magnesium base found on the E6420. Other features carried over from the E6420 are the systems metal hinges and sturdy closing latch, but on the ATG, the ports are protected by rubber covers.

Open the E6420 ATGs lid and what youll find is essentially a carbon copy of the E6420. It features the same comfortable, spill-resistant keyboard, complete with adjustable touch-activated backlight and pointing stick. A bright orange pinstripe surrounds the keyboard and adds some personality to the Latitudes design.

The E6420 ATGs matte-black deck offers a comfortable palm rest and includes a set of volume buttons on its right-hand side. On the decks upper left-hand corner are three indicator lights that give the status of the systems battery, hard drive, and wireless signal. To help protect the E6420 ATGs display, Dell has reinforced the screens frame and equipped it with a spill-resistant seal.

The price you pay for all of the E6420 ATGs protective features is its sheer size. Measuring 4 x 9.7 x 1.5 inches (with its port covers) and weighing in at 6.6 pounds with its nine-cell battery, the 14-inch E6420 ATG is larger and weighs 0.4 pounds more than the E6420 (which includes the same battery back) and 2 pounds heavier than Toshibas Tecra R840 (S8430)

Restore laptop computers PC Laptops

Refurbished laptop computer are not essentially spruced up second-hand apparatus, they are supplementary regularly returned harvest that have some small mark or wrapping problems. When a notebook or laptop computers are returned to the producer it is inspect and evaluate, given small maintenance if essential and repackaged. The high-quality news is the price tag is much inferior than for a new, unblemished model. It is not uncommon to save half the recommended retail price. These refurbished laptop computers are brilliant excellence and value and have a extremely low return rate to the producer, which indicate customer satisfaction. Like new, full price products, refurbish laptop computers come with guarantee and a warranty. All the main manufacturer of laptops offer refurbishes apparatus and you can often find these offerings by doing an Internet search.
Refurbished notebook come with an in use system, though they may or may not approach with an supplementary software bundle such as Microsoft Office so it is significant to be extremely obvious on what the price cover. Refurbished laptop computer can do the whole lot a new, full priced computer can do. The key is to be clear on the size of the hard drive, the amount of RAM the CPU comes with and the velocity and type of processor. If you identify these things you can compare the price of the refurbished product with a new one obtainable at a retail outlet. However, there can be a very real variation between the quality of a refurbished computer from the producer and a private dealer who is refurbishing laptops and notebooks. company refurbished apparatus based on minor defects in appearance and wrapping offer little or no risk to the buyer and are suggested for their value, though there are low price refurbish laptops which are obviously second hand and given a new lease on life. These computers can frequently be purchase at very sensible prices but you would have to be extremely careful that the isolation that refurbished the apparatus created a high quality produce at a very realistic price, backed up by guarantee and warranty.

Lenovo IdeaPad U350

Lenovo IdeaPad U350

Standout Features

• Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
• Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
• 4GB RAM Memory
• Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

At just 3.5 pounds and a mere one inch thick, the Lenovo IdeaPad U350 has the look of an ultra-portable netbook. It has a 13.3-inch widescreen, LED backlit display and an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts screen brightness in response to surrounding lighting conditions. As handy as the minimal size and weight are, they can imply being rather lightweight in computing power as well. Thanks to a couple of important upgrades from Lenovo, the device has moved significantly towards being a serious laptop computer.

Most notable is the upgrade of the CPU from an Atom processor, characteristic of Netbooks, to an Intel Core 2 Duo Su7300 running at a respectable 1.3GHz clock speed. More significantly, as a dual core chip, it is essentially two distinct processors built into one. Further, each core has two threads so it’s rather like data is flying down a four lane highway rather than the single path that had been available with the previous processor. In short, it represents a tremendous increase in the amount and speed of data processing.

Nearly as significant is the leap from Windows Vista which was previously offered as the operating system to the far superior Windows 7 Home Premium. This is an upgrade that loads of Vista users willingly pay for so it really is a tangible bonus for Lenovo buyers.

Network and internet connectivity is always an issue for laptop users and this unit has the issue covered. It has a gigabit Ethernet port for wired connection but more practically provides wireless internet and LAN access via Wi-Fi including the high speed 802.11n protocol. Bluetooth, both mono and stereo, is also furnished. This is handy for users who would like to connect to interface with wireless devices like a mouse, cell phone or even headphones.

The U350 comes with 4GB of RAM memory which is pretty substantial for a small laptop. Storage is provided by a 320GB hard disc drive. One item that is lacking is an optical disc drive. That helps in the size and weight category means that an external drive would have to be connected in the event that a user needs to transfer information to or from a DVD or CD.

The computer includes an integrated 1.3-megapixel web cam which is typical of this category. An unusual use of the camera, however, is the Lenovo VeriFace facial recognition system which affords a level of security beyond simple password entry.

The device is covered by a one year limited parts and labor warranty which includes depot level repair if required. That can be upgraded to include in-home service and accidental damage protection if desired. Coverage can be expanded to two or three years at additional cost.

Acer to Launch 99 Android Tablet

Brace yourself, this is going to get confusing. Not because the story is difficult to follow, but rather because the reasoning is a little suspect. Asus has been rumored to be releasing a $99 Android tablet for a while now, and the Slate was by all accounts going to be that device. Instead, the 7-inch Slate is being bumped up to something closer to the $129-$149 range, because according to Asus they don’t want to cannibalize their own profits on the Nexus 7, which they also manufacture. Even though it doesn’t look like we’re going to see the Slate from Asus at this price point, Acer is filling the gap with a new $99 7-inch Android tablet, the Iconia B1.

The Iconia B1 isn’t a powerhouse, but that helps explain its low asking price. Here’s what we know so far about the specs:
  • 7-inch screen
  • 1024×600 Resolution
  • 170ppi
  • 1.2GHz Processor
  • Android 4.1 (speculated)
  • Sim-card Slot (speculated)

What did you notice in that list? For starters, the resolution probably sounds familiar if you made the mistake of picking up a BlackBerry PlayBook, which featured a similarly poor showing in the resolution department on a 7-inch device. The second thing to catch your eye was probably the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean listing, if only because I’m assuming you’re reading the list from the top down. This may be the real kicker, so to speak, that convinces people in the market for a low-cost Android tablet to pick the latest offering from Acer instead of the Kindle Fire, iPad Mini, or the Nexus 7.

The last interesting bit of information is the speculation that the Iconia B1 might include a Sim-card slot, offering up the ability to get cellular data service with your budget device. There’s been no word from any carrier if they plan to offer service for a new Acer device, so there’s no way to tell if this could end up as a free device with new service. The Iconia B1 is expected to release in Q1 of 2013. So, would you pick up this low-cost Acer tablet over a Nexus 7 or any other tablet? Perhaps the bigger question is whether upping the price on the Slate is going to have the desired effect of creating two price levels which don’t cannibalize each other, can did Asus make the right decision?
